3D Pathways for Animation & VFX
1. What will I Need? Equipment: Participants will need to have access to their own home set up, including but not limited to: laptop, keyboard, mouse, drawing tablet. Remote Access: Participants will use a provided remote access system to connect to a dedicated virtual machine equipped with Toon Boom Harmony and all necessary software. Internet Connection: A stable and high-speed internet connection is required for seamless remote access and participation in online classes. If internet connection is not reliable, TP links can be sent to participants to boost connectivity.

This 2-week full-time course is tailored for recent graduates and individuals seeking to build their animation skills, specifically in Toon Boom Harmony, a widely used industry tool. Participants will receive intensive training designed to enhance their understanding of the animation production pipeline and to develop technical proficiency in Toon Boom Harmony. Through expert instruction and hands-on projects, participants will simulate real-world animation tasks, culminating in a portfolio of work that showcases their abilities. The program emphasizes practical learning and is designed to help participants prepare for potential opportunities in animation studios. The course is delivered entirely online, with participants gaining access to remote machines fully equipped with the required software and tools. A structured daily schedule ensures comprehensive training while encouraging participants to apply their knowledge through practical exercises and projects. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course, participants will: - Be proficient in using Toon Boom Harmony for 2D animation, including drawing, rigging, animation, and compositing. - Develop a comprehensive portfolio, including a capstone project, that highlights their technical skills and creativity. - Gain a thorough understanding of the animation pipeline and how to manage projects from concept to final output. - Build the confidence and technical skills necessary to pursue further opportunities in the animation industry. Led by an industry professional, the course covers best practices for job applications, portfolio development, and interview preparation. Through live instruction, hands-on exercises, and personalised feedback, participants will build confidence in navigating the job market and leave with a polished CV, an industry-ready showreel, and a strong understanding of how to position themselves for professional opportunities. Course Structure: Week 1: Introduction to Career Development in Animation - Overview of the animation job market and industry expectations. - Understanding different roles and how to tailor your applications. -Introduction to CV structure, formatting, and key content areas. - Practical Exercise: Drafting or refining your CV with tutor guidance. Week 2: Showreel Essentials - The purpose of a showreel and how it fits into the job application process. - Best practices for selecting, organising, and presenting work. - Technical considerations (file formats, resolution, duration, etc.). - Practical Exercise: Planning your showreel structure and identifying key pieces of work.
